Nelson Piquet Sr. has hit back at claims that Fernando Alonso didn’t know anything about the alleged ‘crash-gate’ scandal in advance.
Talking to Diario Sport Piquet Snr suggested that the Spanish ex-champion knew everything.
Alonso spoke out over the weekend saying that he knew nothing of the allegations until the news broke, and this was backed up by FIA president Max Mosely.
But Piquet Sr. told Diaro Sport: “Fernando knew everything. He couldn’t ignore it.”
“If you are 15th on the grid at a street circuit, there is no point going out with no fuel. At most you will pass three cars and after your last stop you stay where you are. It’s a senseless strategy,” the Brazilian triple world champion added.
Bernie Ecclestone was also quoted in the paper saying, “Nelson told me that he is going to do everything he can to destroy Briatore.”
