Zanardi Aims For 2012 Olympics

1 Mins read

Former F1 and Champ Car driver Alex Zanardi is looking to gain a place on the Italian cycling team at the 2012 Paralympics.

Zanardi who lost both of his legs after a horrific crash in the 2001 Champ Car series, has been active in motor sport since his accident, returning just two years later to compete in the WTCC.

In 2007 he made his handcycling debut in the New York Marathon, finishing fourth after just four weeks of training.

On Thursday he was 15th in the individual time trial at the Para-cycling Road World Championships in Italy, just 3.45 behind Bejing Gold medalist Oz Sanchez.

Speaking on his official website before the race he said: “My honest objective is to be at the level of the best Italian bikers and to finish in the top half of the classification, waiting for a dream that could come true in London in 2012.”
