Club Racing Goes Live in 2010

1 Mins read

The Leicestershire circuit of Mallory Park is set to play host to a new concept in 2010 as TV channel Motors TV plans to televise a complete five-hour club meeting live from the track across Europe.

The May 16 event is the pilot broadcast for four planned events in 2010, which is successful will lead to full season of weekends in 2011. The Mallory Park coverage will be produced by HayFisher, the UKs leading motorsport coverage production company.

“The aim is to provide the most exciting spectacle that British club racing can offer,” said Magnus Laird, event director “and to bring back some of the appeal which has been eroded in recent years for spectators, competitors and sponsors alike.

“The combination of full grids, short races and live television, combined with slick organisation and presentation, should prove a winning formula.”

But the deal will not just see the arm chair fan treated, with fans at the track seeing timed on-track tests between the races, which will see the race winners compete, as well as professional commentary of the races which will also be broadcast on a 40m TV screen trackside.

Eight different championships are planned for the weekend, each competing in a pair of televised races. The series scheduled are as follows; Kent powered Formula Fords, 2CVs, Caterham Graduates, Sports 2000, the BARC Tin Tops Championship, the Kuhmo BMW championship, the BARC Dunlop Motorsport News Saloons and the BARC Intermarque League.

Organisers are setting the entry fee at £300 per car, which includes a ten minute qualifying session as well as the pair of ten minute races. Test sessions on Saturday will also be available at £30 for 25 minutes of track time. Every competitor will also be given a free DVD of the Motors TV coverage, and be able to take advantage of the planned free paddock catering.
