“A reasonably good day” for Lotus

1 Mins read

The Lotus Cosworth T127 ran on slick tyres for the first time today as the sun finally shone over the Jerez circuit.

For many of the teams, getting to and from the track was tricky after a recent torrential downpour had affected the local roads, but they were rewarded with good testing conditions.

Heikki Kovalainen returned to the wheel after his minor crash yesterday, completing 68 laps.

Technical director Mike Gascoyne revealed that the team had a small technical hitch this morning, but was generally pleased with the day's testing.  “A reasonably good day today and the best thing was getting our first dry running in. We had a small problem this morning with a clutch sensor but as we wanted to wait until conditions had dried up that suited us well. We concentrated on long runs and started to work with the two tyre types, which we obviously haven't been able to do before, so overall good progress.”

Kovalainen's teammate Jarno Trulli will get his first chance to test in the new car tomorrow.
