Andrew Jordan will race a Vauxhall Vectra in this season's Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship, run by the family team Pirtek Racing.
The Vectra, a former works Vectra, will be powered by the new NGTC Engine, a 2.0l, 300bhp, turbocharged power plant, which will reduce team's engine budgets by over 50%, is part of a whole new set of regulations which will come in for the 2011 season.
Jordan has been out testing the new engine ahead of the opening rounds of the season, and he commented on the car and the whole package: “The package of the new car and engine is so far working well. We've completed several tests at different circuits and we are happy with the power and performance of the car. Naturally we've been having some teething problems because we were the first team to run the new NGTC engine, but we are all working hard to overcome any issues and make the best of the package before the season gets underway. I'm really excited about our prospects for the season ahead, we've pushed our development programme hard to stand us in the best position we can for the start of the year at Thruxton, so roll on the first race!”
Mike Jordan, Andrew's father, is part of the team and is overseeing the whole operation for the Pirtek Racing outfit, and his reaction to how the pre season testing has been going is: “It's great for Eurotech to be back in the BTCC, having a family run outfit means we're a really close team who work well together. Some of the lads worked with Andrew on the Vauxhall last year and that has given them a thorough understanding of the car, now we are just focusing on the combination of the new engine and the Vectra chassis to really be at our optimum for the new season.
“Andrew has been working really hard in the off season, he's worked on his fitness and spent as much time as he could develop the set up and performance of the car. He's been very strong with giving feedback to the engine suppliers Swindon Engines, he knows what he wants to achieve in pre season testing and is very focused on achieving it. I think if we have reliability on our side we could have a good start to the year.”
Andrew has already had his opening race of the season, in a Ginetta G50, which he raced in the Britcar race at Brands Hatch over the weekend, and took the class win, and finished the race in 4th place overall. Jordan's reaction to how the race went: “We had a great outing in the Britcar series at the weekend in our Ginetta G50. We won our class after a really close battle throughout the race. It's a very different atmosphere to the BTCC, but there is still a good level of competition and its great fun. Britcar is good experience for me, the Ginetta is fantastic to drive and it keeps me fit and up to speed on track as well as the chance to go wheel to wheel with cars such as Porsches and Ferrari's.”
The opening rounds of the 2010 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship take place at the high speed Thruxton circuit in Hampshire over the 3rd and 4th April. The official Media Day takes place at Brands Hatch on the 23rd March.
