1 Mins read

The Mobil 1 Supercup season is officially go after drivers completed their first qualifying session of the year in Bahrain today.

With times from today’s qualifying setting the grid for both today and tomorrow drivers were trying hard to set constant times, the fastest lap from today would decide their position on the grid for Race 1 with the second fastest time deciding grid slots for Race 2.

Championship runner up from 2009 René Rast set the pace during the 30 minute session finishing the session on top of the sheets with two times quick enough to take pole position for both races this weekend. Even the German admitted surprise at his pace with his new team, “I didn't expect such a great result, its simply perfect” he said.

Title defender Jeroen Bleekemolen will start Race 1 from fifth spot on the grid after being out-paced by Stefan Rosina and Norbert Siedler. For the second race he’s a little luckier as his second fastest time was good enough for third place.

Nick Tandy continued the good form he showed in practice yesterday securing second place on the grid for both races. Fellow Brit Sean Edwards put in a time quick enough for eleventh place for Race 1 and a solid eighth place for Race 2. Reigning Porsche Carrera Cup GB Champion Tim Bridgman finished up thirteenth for Race 1 and sixteenth for Race 2, while team-mate Breen took eighteenth and twentieth

With a grid of 24 drivers from 14 countries this years Mobil 1 Supercup looks set to be another thriller, Race 1 kicks off today at 10.30 CET with Race 2 tomorrow at 10.00 CET.
