Lotus Closing In On Renault Engine Deal


According to reports Lotus are on the verge of signing a deal with Renault which will see the French Manufacturer provide engines along with road car tie-ins.

Lotus team principal Tony Fernandes and technical director Mike Gascoyne met with Renault officials on Sunday morning at Silverstone and it is understood that both Lotus and Renault are keen on the deal, despite Gascoyne reiterating that they have a deal with Cosworth.

If the deal was to go ahead it wouldn’t be the first time that the Lotus name is powered by Renault engines, during 1983 to 1986 the Renault-powered Lotus cars won five races an was driven by the likes of Nigel Mansell and Ayrton Senna.

In other news the Team Lotus name is close to making a comeback after team officials close in on a deal with the owners of the brand name.
