Title hopefuls Set For Tough Triple Header At Silverstone

1 Mins read

The stars of the 2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK series are getting ready to battle for a massive 102 points this weekend as they look forward to three races over the Silverstone National Circuit.

After the postponement of Round Five at Brands Hatch earlier in the season, due to adverse weather conditions, the drivers are getting ready to compete in only the second triple header in the series history. The re-run of lap five will take place on Saturday, with rounds 13 and 14 run as scheduled on Sunday.

The meeting could prove decisive in the title battle, with only 27 points separating the top five as they approach Silverstone. The grid for the re-arranged round five will be unchanged from the original qualifying session at Brands Hatch, meaning a Manor Competition front row of Lewis Williamson and Will Stevens, who head into the event third and second in the championship respectively. Championship leader Tama's Pa'l Kiss will line up third in his Atech GP car, while CRS Racing's Harry Tincknell, fresh from victory last time out at Snetterton moving him into joint third in the standings, will line up fourth. Tom Blomqvist, fifth in the standings, will line up in seventh.

The first ever Formula Renault triple header took place at Snetterton in 2008, when round 10 of the series took place alongside the scheduled rounds, after heavy rain forced its postponement at Croft earlier in the season. The winner of the re-arranged race was Alexander Sims, who went onto to finish runner up in the series to Adam Christodoulou.

Looking ahead to the weekend, pole-sitter for round five Lewis Williamson said: “I'm really looking forward to the weekend and it's going to be great for spectators too with plenty of racing. It's so close at the top and with so many points to play for there's a lot of pressure to perform. I'm just going to try and keep a cool head and hopefully come away in a strong position going into my home track at Knockhill.”

2010 Michelin Formula Renault UK Championship provisional drivers' standings:

1st Tama's Pa'l Kiss HUN Atech GP 277 pts
2nd Will Stevens GBR Manor Competition 270 pts
3rd Lewis Williamson GBR Manor Competition 251 pts
Harry Tincknell GBR CRS Racing 251 pts
5th Tom Blomqvist SWE Fortec Motorsport 250 pts
