Jason Mills made a positive start on his Elf Renault Clio Cup debut yesterday at Brands Hatch after finishing the day in ninth place.

After using the morning session to get a feel for the car Mills set about putting in some consistent lap times in the afternoon, finishing the session in ninth place after choosing to save his new set of tyres for qualifying tomorrow, unlike many of the frontrunners.

Unfortunately for fellow débutante Andy Jordan his day didn’t quite go to plan as he wiped out most of the front of his car in the early stages of the session. Following a red flag to recover the debris Jordan returned to track in a battle scarred Clio. The afternoon would see Jordan out on track with a full front end (held together with white tape).

Andy Jordan's first practice session didn't go to plan.

Dixon also had an early off in the first session which saw his Clio head backwards in to the tyre barriers. Other débutante Craig Currie finished the day in thirteenth place.

The session was topped by Paul Rivett with a time of 52.365s set in the afternoon session. Mike Robinson finished just 0.053 seconds behind, with Lee Pattison just 0.027 seconds behind Robinson.

2010 champion Dave Newsham doesn’t take part in the final weekend of the Clio’s due to racing in the guest car for the Ginetta G50 Cup.
