Wagner Takes BARC Class Win at Pembrey

1 Mins read

Hillspeed ace David Wagner took his maiden BARC Class win during the final round of the 2010 Formula Renault Winter Championship at Pembrey. The single-seater rookie added to his double podium success at the previous round at Snetterton with two more podium results at the Welsh circuit.

Tyre choice for the Scottish driver would be critical in the final round on a tricky, drying circuit. His Hillspeed team took the correct decision, starting him on wet tyres, allowing him to fight his way up from fourth in class on the grid to win by over a second from class champion Josh Webster. In doing so, he ended his maiden car racing championship as vice champion.

Team mate Howard Fuller ended his campaign with a well-deserved third place in the championship.  Two podiums at Pembrey, including a third place in the final round, saw him end up just five points behind Wagner in the standings.

In the first race of the weekend, Fuller took a solid podium in third, with Wagner sixth, before the duo swapped finishing positions for the day's second race. In the wet Sunday weather, Fuller took fourth in Round five, with Wagner in sixth.

Both drivers enjoyed a good campaign, with team principal Richard Ollerenshaw saying: “We've been very pleased with the performances David and Howard have delivered throughout the winter series. The last race was all about tyres and we made the right call to go with wets. We're delighted David took the class win and also finished runner-up in the points. With Howard securing third in the championship too, it's as much as we could have asked for.”
