The legendary Erik Carlsson is helping to celebrate the centenary celebrations of the Monte Carlo Rally this weekend, by giving his backing to an entry comprising a replica of the car which propelled him to victory in 1963.

Carlsson’s exploits through his Saab career saw him take on many higher powered machines and win, thanks to the driving technique he developed for the challenge, and it is a replica of the Saab 96 prepared by German car magazine Oldtimer Markt.

Starting from Reims on Friday 28th January, Oldtimer Markt’s chief editor Peter Steinfurth will be joined by navigator Thorsten Loeber, the crew will be at the helm of a machine which recreates the original to the smallest of details, including the entry number which Carlsson himself used in 1963, 283.
