Adrian Campos Jr. will race in Auto GP this season, after being confirmed as the second driver at his father's Campos Racing team.

Campos Jr. previously raced for the team in Formula 3 in the Spanish and European Open championships. For 2010 he made the move across the Atlantic to race in the Indy Lights Series, where he impressed on his way to finishing sixth overall in his rookie season.

Despite returning to European competition for this season, Campos Jr is still aiming towards a future in American open-wheel racing. “When I tried the Auto GP car in Valencia I immediately felt that it was very similar to the American-style single seaters, but delivering even more power,” said Campos Jr.

“It was exciting and impressive at the same time, and I’m sure that driving it for a whole season I will learn a lot, building up an experience that will be useful in order to progress to my final aim, the IndyCar Series.”

Team boss Adrian Campos believes that his 22-year-old son will help the team to challenge at the front of the field in their first Auto GP season.

“Throughout his career, Adrian always showed a great talent in adapting to new cars,” said Campos Sr. “That’s why I’m sure that his learning period on the car will be very short, and that he will quickly be able to challenge for what is both his and our aim: race wins.”

Auto GP chief Enzo Coloni commented: “I’m delighted to have Adrian in the championship. He proved to be very talented in the past seasons, and he comes from a different background compared to his competitors, having contested the Indy Lights in 2010. In his debut season in America he was really good, so I’m very curious to see how he will cope with the Auto GP car.

“I’m also happy to see that a driver who has the IndyCar Series as his main aim has chosen Auto GP as a step to get there. I think it tells a lot on the high consideration that drivers are showing for our series.”

Campos Jr. joins Marco Barba in the Campos Racing lineup for the coming season. They are currently considering options for their third seat and hope to announce the identity of the driver soon.
