Ellinas Takes Maiden Renault Pole

2 Mins read

Alex Lynn and Tio Ellinas will line up on pole position for Rounds three and four of the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship at Donington Park. Championship leader Lynn took his third pole position of the season, with Ellinas' pole being his first in Formula Renault racing.

Fortec Motorsport's Lynn will be joined on the front row for the first race by Ellinas, with the second row being made up by Oliver Rowland, the leading Graduate Cup runner and Mark Burdett Motorsport's Jack Hawksworth. Behind them, Manor Competition pair Ollie Millroy and Jordan King complete the top six.

Round four will see Atech Reid GP's Ellinas and reigning Winter Series champion Lynn once again make up the front row, with Hawksworth third and Manor's Alice Powell a strong fourth. Rowland and Millroy will make up row three.

Lynn said: “The first session was good for us. We had a terrible day on Thursday so had to make amends today. For the second race, I always want to be in first, but second is the next best. Tio is a quick driver and it was only a matter of time before he took pole. We're close on pace and the race is going to be interesting.”

Ellinas said: “It's nice to get my pole in Formula Renault. The session went well from the start; the car felt good and I was able to push hard. Pole is the best place to start, I can try to keep the lead and defend. I could've pushed a bit more in the first session, but second's a good place on the grid. This is a bigger circuit than Brands Hatch, so there's more chance to pass Alex and I've got to see what happens in the race.”

Hawksworth said: “Of course I wanted to be on pole, but from the second row I can attack and hope to make up places from the start. The races are certainly winnable. Two podium finishes would be a good result. The speed is in the car; we're just chasing those last two tenths.”

Rowland said. “It's a reasonably good result. I was pushing and went off, and my tyres only came back on the final lap. It's not easy against these guys as a rookie. But if I get the chance to overtake, I'm going to take it. Into the first corner is a good opportunity, but I need to make a good start.”
