Rigon Makes GP2 Return With Coloni

1 Mins read

Scuderia Coloni have confirmed that Davide Rigon will race for the team in the 2011 GP2 Series, after driving for the team in pre-season testing.

Euroseries 3000 champion in 2007, the Italian took Beijing Guoan to the inaugural Superleague Formula title in 2008. Off the back of this he moved to GP2, driving for Trident Racing. After a podium in the Asia Series during the winter, he endured a tough main series season, scoring just three points. He made a winning return to Superleague Formula for 2010, helping Anderlecht to the title.

Rigon has recently joined Scuderia Ferrari as a development driver. He joined Coloni for pre-season testing after James Jakes left the team to race in the IndyCar Series, and will now race alongside Michael Herck in a deal lasting the full season.

“I am very happy to be back in GP2 and do so with an experienced team like Coloni,” said Rigon. “This is a team with a glorious past and important technical skills. Since the first two days of testing at Silverstone we have had a great feeling and I am glad that Paolo and Enzo Coloni believe in me so much.

“In Barcelona, we have shown that we work well together and we believe that we can get great results this season. I want to thank all my sponsors who have given me the opportunity to be on the grid. Without them my dream could not continue.”

“I am satisfied like never before with the line-up we have this season,” said team boss Paolo Coloni. “Davide was able to fit in our team quickly thanks to his good nature and his professionalism.

“It is also a pleasure to have with us a driver who works with the Scuderia Ferrari which takes us back to 1989 when Roberto Moreno, who at the time was test driver for Ferrari, made his debut in F1 with our team.

“We feel we have two drivers with the right skills and maturity to handle even the most complex stages of the race and we hope that this, combined with the constructive spirit that animates the team, can bring great results.”
