Auto GP’s Bucharest Round Cancelled

1 Mins read

The Auto GP organisers have dropped the Bucharest round from the series' calendar. The event was due to take place on the street circuit in the Romanian capital on 20-21 August that previously held rounds of the FIA GT Championship and British F3.

However, the series organisers have taken the decision to cancel the event due to a number of doubts surrounding it with two months to go.

The circuit has not yet gained the FIA grade 2 homologation required for Auto GP to race there. In addition to this the event promoter hadn't yet secured the necessary financial support.

The series organisers are working on finding a replacement event, and will make an announcement soon.

“We still think that Auto GP would have provided a massive show in the streets of Bucharest, but we have commitments towards our partners, our teams and our drivers and we couldn't accept so many question marks with just two months to go,” said series boss Enzo Coloni.

“So we had to take this decision, even if reluctantly. We are already in talks with other circuits for a replacement event, mainly in Italy and Spain at the moment, but we are still open to other options.”

It is the second time Auto GP has been forced to make a calendar change this season. Its other planned street circuit round in Marrakech, in support of the WTCC, was also cancelled.
