Quaife-Hobbs Takes Maiden GP3 Win In First Valencia Race

1 Mins read

Adrian Quaife-Hobbs scored his first victory in the GP3 Series thanks to a flying start to the first race in Valencia.

The Manor driver made a brilliant getaway to get past the front-row pairing of Lewis Williamson and Dean Smith off the line. Smith's start was better than polesitter Williamson's, the Addax man getting past the MW Arden driver and into second place behind Quaife-Hobbs.

The leading trio remained in that order until the final lap. Quaife-Hobbs took a comfortable six second win, but Smith's car slowed on the final lap, losing him second place. Williamson held off race-long pressure from teammate Mitch Evans to finish second.

Gabby Chaves finished in fourth place with teammate Smith crawling across the line in fifth. Alexander Sims finished in sixth, having recovered the places lost from a ten-place grid penalty for causing a qualifying collision that left him 16th on the grid.

Sims passed the ART pairing of Valtteri Bottas and James Calado in the closing stages, who finished in seventh and eighth places respectively and will start the second race on the front row as a result.
