Michel Nykjaer will attempt to reclaim the European Touring Car Cup at the Salzburgring this weekend behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Cruze.
The Dane won the title at his first attempt in 2007 at Adria in a GR Asia-run SEAT Leon. He then won again in 2008 at the Salzburgring driving a Chevrolet Lacetti entered by Chevrolet Motorsport Denmark. In 2009, at Braga, he failed to retain his crown in the Lacetti.
In last year's series (which was made up of three events rather than just one) he contested the second and third rounds at the Salzburgring and at Franciacorta, using the SEAT Leon TDI he was racing in the WTCC with SUNRED. He won all four races he entered, which was enough to see him finish runner-up overall, just four points behind James Thompson.
This weekend he will again use a Chevrolet, this time a 2.0 litre normally-aspirated Cruze model run by the Chevrolet Motorsport Sweden team, usually raced by Rickard Rydell in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship.
