Ellinas And Lynn Share Snetterton Wins

2 Mins read

Tio Ellinas was gifted victory in a dramatic Round Eleven of the Formula Renault UK 2.0 Championship race around the Snetterton 300 circuit, before championship leader Alex Lynn returned to the top spot in Round Twelve for his ninth victory of the season.

Qualifying for the opening race had seen Will Stevens, making a guest appearance in the series, on pole, before he was given a 10 second penalty when his car was found to be underweight, giving Manor Competition's Jordan King his maiden series pole position.

King carried his qualifying pace into the race and led for the majority of it in the Norfolk sun, keeping Fortec Motorsport's Lynn at bay. However on the penultimate lap, Lynn made an ambitious move for the lead at Brundle, formerly the Esses, hitting the rear left tyre of King, spinning him out of the race. Lynn recovered to the finish, but later received three points on his license and a £250 fine.

Benefitting from the incident to take his second win of the year was Atech Reid GP's Ellinas, the Cypriot leading home his team-mate Jack Hawksworth to secure the team's first ever one-two result. Lynn recovered to finish third, ahead of team-mate and Graduate Cup winner Oliver Rowland.

Finishing fifth after a topsy turvy race was Daniel Cammish, the Mark Burdett Motorsport driver dropping to eleventh early on after starting fourth, before fighting his way back through the field. Felix Serralles took seventh ahead of Manor pair Alice Powell and Josh Hill, while Ed Jones took ninth on his debut in the series for Fortec, with Atech's Dan Wells completing the top ten.

Race two saw Lynn on pole, with Fortec team-mate Stevens alongside him and championship rival Ellinas third. A great start from the front pair saw them lead into Riches for the first time and they broke clear, only to be halted by a safety car after Hawksworth ran wide and hit a bale at the exit of Williams while he tried to gain places from the back.

At the restart, the front two once again pulled clear and proved untouchable, cruising home for a Fortec one-two. Ellinas held third to maintain his championship hopes, while behind after a superb battle, Powell emerged in front to take fourth and the Graduate Cup win, her first of the season.

Behind, her team-mate Hill produced the drive of the race, passing Oscar King and Jordan King early on, before catching and passing Rowland and Cammish to take fifth. Cammish followed in sixth ahead of Rowland, Jordan King, Serralles and Jones.
