Alberto Cerqui closed on International Superstars Series points leader Luigi Ferrara with a double victory in the penultimate round of the season at Mugello.

In the first race, the BMW Italia youngster lead away from pole position at the rolling start. He held on to the lead until the checkered flag, crossing the line 3.754 seconds ahead of the Maserati Quattroporte of Alessandro Pier Guidi.

Stefano Gabellini and Luca Rangoni both got past Pier Guidi for second early on but then made contact and both went off, with Johnny Herbert also going off and spinning in avoidance just behind them.

Max Pigoli came home in third to complete the podium, just ahead of Thomas Biagi and a recovering Herbert. Ferrara suffered engine problems in his Mercedes and finished sixth.

In the second race Pier Guidi took the lead from Cerqui at the first corner, but Rangoni was soon ahead of both of them. However, contact from Pier Guidi put both in the gravel trap and handed the lead back to Cerqui. Pier Guidi was later black flagged for the move.

Cerqui was followed across the line by teammate Biagi, with Herbert in third. Gabellini was fourth, ahead of Pigoli and Francesco Sini. Ferrara struggled with engine problems again and was seventh.

Ferrara now leads Cerqui by 11 points ahead of the finale at Vallelunga, with Andrea Bertolini and Biagi tied for third, 20 points behind Ferrara.
