After missing out on it last time out at Rockingham, Alex Lynn is looking to secure the record for most wins in a Formula Renault UK season with victory during the penultimate rounds of the 2011 campaign at Brands Hatch.
A single win at Rockingham saw the Fortec Motorsport driver equal 1994 champion James Matthews' seventeen year old record for eleven wins in a season, with Lynn likely to surpass it this weekend around the Kent circuit's Grand Prix layout. Lynn has dominated the 2011 season, however unless his title rivals suffer disastrous weekends', he is unlikely to wrap up the championship title before the season finale at Silverstone two weeks later.
Lynn's closest pursuer and the only driver with a realistic chance of stealing the title is Atech Reid GP's Tio Ellinas. The Cypriot ace lies 36 points adrift in the standings and will need a strong weekend to remain in contention heading to Silverstone.
The star of the weekend at Rockingham just under two weeks ago was Fortec's Oliver Rowland. The Racing Steps Foundation-backed driver took his maiden series win in the opening race and will be looking to add to his tally at Brands. Rowland, who leads the Graduate Cup class, sits a comfortable third in the points, as eighty points behind is his nearest rival, Atech's Jack Hawksworth, one of only two other drivers on the grid to have taken a win this season.
A battle to look out for at Brands will be the three way fight for the top spot at Manor Competition. Alice Powell currently leads the way in sixth in the points, but has team-mates Jordan King and Josh Hill right behind her, with just three points separating the trio. Looking to pass them all for a top six championship position is Atech's Dan Wells, who enjoyed his strongest weekend so far at Rockingham, taking fourth in the opening race. The Salisbury-based driver is hoping to build on that at Brands and is aiming for podiums.
