Simeon Back On Eighth Row After Qualifying Crash

1 Mins read

Xavier Simeon will have his work cut out to score points in tomorrow's San Marino Grand Prix after a disastrous qualifying session at Misano. The Belgian was targeting a place in the top ten and got as high as seventh but his session was interrupted by a crash at the halfway stage.

The Tech 3 mechanics fixed the bike in order to send Simeon back out but he was unable to improve his time, dropping to 23rd as a result. The 22 year old knows he is in for a tough challenge on the twisty Misano circuit as he attempts to charge through the field but he is promising an aggressive approach.

“My pace in this qualifying session was good. I think I was seventh in the middle of the session when I had my best lap time. After that I had a small crash, nothing big but big enough to lose time, as we had to prepare the bike again. When I went back out on the track I had a problem with my front brake and I could not improve my lap time anymore. I am sure we could have been in the Top 15 today as the bike was better than yesterday or this morning. Again I will need to fight a whole race to make it into the points and that is disappointing.”

Tomorrow’s Moto2 GP is the second race on the programme at 11:15am UK time.
