With just a week to go until the next rounds of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship at Rockingham in Northamptonshire, Triple Eight Race Engineering with Collins Contractors have confirmed it is likely they will be running just a single turbocharged Vauxhall Vectra for James Nash.

For the majority of the season, the team have been running a second car for Tony Gilham, but since he left after the Snetterton rounds, the team have been searching for a driver to replace him. Renault Clio Cup UK driver Aron Smith stepped into the car for a one-weekend deal for Knockhill, but they have been unable to find a permanent replacement, leaving the car on the sidelines for Rockingham.

Chairman of Triple Eight, Ian Harrison, commented: “I guess it is another sign of the time when a good car is likely to remain idle on a race weekend. Aron Smith took points with us on his BTCC debut at Knockhill but is back now in the Clio Championship when we very much hope he wins the title.

“We've not been short of enquiries for the seat but unfortunately finding somebody with suitable budget has so far proved to be elusive. It isn't too late though and interested parties should contact me or Lee Jones without delay.”
