Tom Boardman will start the opening racing of the BTCC Rockingham weekend from 23rd after he was given a six place penalty for the incident at Knockhill with Jason Plato.
The SEAT driver clipped the rear of Plato's Chevrolet while the two were disputing the lead in the final race of the day at the Scottish track. Plato ended his race in the barriers while Boardman continued to claim his first ever BTCC win – a win and points he will be able to keep.
However, officials have decided to penalise Boardman for the incident.
He will drop from 17th -where he qualified – to 23rd. He has also been fined £1,000 and had three penalty points put on his racing license.
