The World Touring Car Championship's first visit to mainland China later this season has been moved to Shanghai.

The penultimate round of the season was due to take place at the Guangdong International Circuit at Zhaoqing on 6 November, but organisers have now been forced into a change of venue. The event was due to also feature the final round of the China Touring Car Championship.

The Race of China will now take place on the same date at either the Shanghai International Circuit, which plays host to the Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix, or the nearby Tianma Circuit, which currently hosts CTCC races.

“After everything had been arranged for the event at the Guangdong International Circuit, a couple of weeks ago we were told by the promoter of the China Touring Car Championship that it was not possible to carry on with the event as scheduled,” said WTCC promoter Marcello Lotti.

“For the time being, we are unable to share further details about the reasons for the cancellation. However we wish to thank the CTCC promoter for having managed to salvage the event by moving it to Shanghai.”
