Front-running AirAsia Renault Clio Cup UK outfit Scuderia Vittoria have announced the signing  of 2011 title contender James Dixon for the 2012 season.

Dixon is the fifth driver to be confirmed by Scuderia Vittoria for the upcoming campaign, with the ambitious team teaming him up with Scottish trio Vic Covey Jnr, Ronnie Klos and Finlay Crocker, and fellow returnee Luke Wright, in what could be up to a six car line up for the team.

Kent-based Dixon heads to the new team with two years' experience in the Clio Cup. He made his debut in 2010 with Total Control Racing and took five podiums, including a sensational double win on home tarmac at Brands Hatch, to end up sixth in the points. Last year, Dixon was once again with TCR and was part of the championship battle right until the final weekend, however he couldn't take the title and ended up fourth in the points, despite taking four race wins, more than any other driver.

Scuderia Vittoria's co-team principal Danny Buxton is delighted with the signing, saying: “We've been speaking to him for a couple of weeks, and what came across was his passion to win. He felt a bit frustrated not to win the championship last year. We think he was the most complete, rounded driver out there. Hopefully we can put an experienced arm around his shoulder, and with his talent that should be enough for the championship.

“James is massively motivated not only for himself, but he will be helping coach the others. He can't wait to get started. We're delighted, as he's a driver we really wanted for this year.”
