Fergus Walkinshaw is gearing up for his first full season of car racing in three years after announcing plans to compete in the full 2012 Ginetta GT Supercup with Century Motorsport.

20 year old Walkinshaw made his debut in the sportscar championship last year, joining the series halfway through the season in a Ginetta G55 he personally built in just seven weeks last summer. Competing in five meetings, Walkinshaw took a best result of seventh overall at Rockingham. Walkinshaw now heads into 2012 hoping to challenge for the championship and feels confident running with the Century Motorsport outfit, with whom he raced in the final two meetings of 2011.

Walkinshaw said: “It's a good feeling to have a full season of racing and a seat at Century Motorsport for 2012. Century is a great team and that gives me confidence heading into my first full year of racing since 2008. I need to get some good race experience onboard but with Century's backing I naturally want to be in the championship fight. My first aim will be to take my first Ginetta G55 podium. Before that, though, I need to get in some good testing mileage prior to the first Brands Hatch round.

“The Media Day [March 5th, Silverstone] will be the first chance for me to get back behind the wheel and I can't wait to continue where I left off developing the car. Moving to Century last year helped me take the set-up to the next level and the team's full season support will be invaluable. The mandatory upgrades have been made to the engine and the team will ensure the car is in top condition throughout the year.

“Consistency will be the key this year. You don't have to win every race, as there's often a lot of shuffling with the reverse grids, but consistent points finishes will be what makes a difference to the championship fight. It should be a great experience.”

Century Motorsport Team Principal Nathan Freke added: “It’s great to be working with Fergus again this year. Having run him for the final two rounds last season we have already built a solid relationship and work well together. I believe that Century can offer Fergus the best chance of success and we will be putting every effort in to make that happen.

“Fergus has a lot of natural talent and whilst still relatively inexperienced in the G55 I believe he has what it takes to put the car right at the front and achieve the results he desires. We have invested a lot of effort over the winter break and have a good testing programme lined- up, so we are confident we will hit the ground running.”
