Jorge Cevallos put in a steady performance in the opening rounds of the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Snetterton.

Cevallos, who is a member of the Escuderia Telmex driver development programme, signed a late deal to join the series with Mtech Lite. Despite very little pre-season testing, Cevallos put in some impressive performance on his maiden weekend, coping well in a wet qualifying to put himself in the top fifteen for all three races. The Mexican then went on to record two top ten finishes, the only disappointment of the weekend being a race two retirement.

Jorge Cevallos: “The meeting went well. Of course I would like to be up at the front but I need to work on some things and take it one step at a time, after all it was only my first time racing. It is fair I think to say that it was a steep learning curve for me, particularly so given the tricky driving conditions.

“Nevertheless, the car felt good and I enjoyed working with the team. Iʼm happy too that we were able to show that we have got good pace and I think it sets us up well for the next rounds of the championship at Rockingham in May.

“None of this would have been possible without the valued support and encouragement of a number of parties. I would especially like to thank MTECH Lite, Escuderia Telmex, Visit Tijuana, Caliente Casino, Tersa Tires, and Marti Sports for the opportunity they are giving me.”

Team Manager for MTECH Lite, Les Jones added: “Given that Jorge had limited testing prior to the meeting and the ever-changing weather conditions too, Jorge demonstrated that he has a cool and calm attitude in the car that is necessary to do well. This past weekend he exceeded both my own and the teamʼs expectations of him.”
