Single-seater racer Anton Spires has unveiled his plans for the 2012 season, with the 19 year old set to compete in selected rounds of the Monoposto Championship before joining the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship for the final three rounds of the year.

Former Saxmax and Young Guns driver Spires will be out testing at Mallory Park in a couple of weeks before joining the grid for the Monoposto Championship at Donington Park on April 28th/29th and at Silverstone on May 12th/13th.

After a couple more tests at Mallory, Spires, a road safety ambassador for AA Drivetech and an ambassador for booostoxygen.com, will then return to the Formula Renault BARC Championship for the meetings at Thruxton, Donington and Silverstone, having made his debut in the series in the final meeting of 2011 at Silverstone.

Buckingham-based Spires said: “With us only competing in two rounds last year, one Intersteps and one BARC Renault, we felt it was important to enter as many races with the budget raised over the winter. This is why we came to the conclusion of both, Monoposto and BARC, as we can afford to do 3/4 rounds in each championship and get more exposure for our sponsors.

It's been pretty difficult raising the budget as we’ve spent all winter putting together a package and its only now that it's coming together, as I now have added support from a company called ‘BOOOST Oxygen’ which is a new product being launched this year.

“I'm happy to be racing this year, also as its considerable amount more than last year, however a little part of me is disappointed I couldn’t be on the Snetterton grid or afford the full BARC championship, but we see things moving a lot quicker then 2011.

“This year I want to get on the podium in both championships as I’m racing the Formula Renault car in both championships to help develop the car initially for the BARC rounds. Obviously I can’t win a championship but race wins and podiums will help prospects for next year and for our sponsors.”
