After HWA Mercedes drivers Gary Paffett and Christian Vietoris locked out the front row at Brands Hatch in qualifying yesterday, The Checkered Flag asked Mercedes' Maro Engel for his take on the qualifying session.

Well I think Mercedes stands very well to be honest,” the AMG ambassador said.  “In the last two races, if there was something to criticise it would have been the qualifying performances, if you can dare to criticize… I think Jamie was second on the grid in Hockenheim.

But anyway, the race performances have been great for Mercedes, who've proved they have the fastest car in the first two races over the long run on race pace.”

Here, we've seen a great performance, especially by Gary, who has been quick all weekend. Christian Vietoris managed to get his act together during qualifying I would say because he looked like he might even not make the cut in Q1, so to go and get second on the grid is a great result.

It's probably great news for Gary; he's definitely  got a good championship lead already, and now he has Christian Vietoris behind him who can hopefully keep his back clear. So for the race, possibilities are looking very good.

“As we know, British weather might strike tomorrow, and we might get rain, which will spice things up.”
