Jack Dex has announced his withdrawal from the 2012 Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship.

The SWB Motorsport driver has made the decision after running out of funds to contest the remaining rounds of the season, beginning with Rounds Six and Seven at Thruxton next weekend.

Dex began the year strongly, topping the timesheets in the highly-competitive championship's official pre-season test at Silverstone. Disappointing performances in wet qualifying sessions have been his downfall in the two race meetings to date though. He was able to salvage three top ten finishes at Snetterton, but Rockingham saw engine failure and contact from a rival cause two DNF's, leaving him fourteenth in the championship.

Dex said: “Things that should’ve come off didn’t and due to a few things I haven’t been winning like I should’ve so we have decided to call it a day for now.

“We have been so fast in the dry, it’s been such a shame with the Wet Qualifyings. For some reason I have been struggling in the Wet. Whether it’s tyres, or in the car or me, I haven’t been able to find the problem. I’m happy with my performance in the dry.

“I would like to do the final round at Silverstone in Formula Renault BARC supporting the BTCC. It has been difficult racing in one of the smaller teams against drivers with much larger budgets but I have learnt a lot about driving with slicks and wings and I can take this experience into whatever I do next.

“I would like to thank the Team SWB, and all my partners and supporters for their help so far!”
