Tio Ellinas lost his maiden podium finish in the GP3 Series after stewards decided that the Cypriot driver took the position illegally at the end of the second race in Valencia.
Ellinas claimed third place at the very last corner of the 14 lap race with a move on Kevin Ceccon, but stewards ruled that Ellinas had forced his rival off track.
They issued Ellinas with a one second time penalty, which dropped him from third to fifth, behind Ceccon.
Ceccon's off-track excursion allowed Matias Laine to also nip ahead, and Ellinas' penalty means that the Finnish driver inherits his second podium finish of the season.
Ellinas wasn't the only driver penalised – Conor Daly has been handed a ten place grid penalty for the next race at Silverstone in two weeks' time.
The American driver lost control under braking for turn eight before the bridge, taking out the innocent John Wartique and causing both to retire on the spot.
Daly had started the Valencia weekend with a ten-place grid drop for his part in the accident that ended his Monaco weekend.
