GP3 Series points leader Aaro Vainio reaffirmed his position as the man to beat this weekend in Valencia by topping the practice session on Friday morning.

The Finn moved to the top of the timesheets with five minutes remaining, displacing Tio Ellinas with a time of 2m00.094.

Vainio's Lotus GP teammate Conor Daly also went faster than Ellinas, but was 0.249s adrift of Vainio.

Mitch Evans, second in the points coming into the weekend, was fourth behind Ellinas. Antonio Felix Da Costa was next up, edging out Kevin Ceccon for fifth.

Monaco reverse grid race winner Marlon Stockinger took seventh just ahead of David Fumanelli, while Alice Powell was a strong ninth.

After setting the pace at last week's test at the nearby Ricardo Tormo Circuit, William Buller was tenth.

Robert Visoiu, Tamas Pal Kiss and the third Lotus ace Daniel Abt were next up, ahead of Alex Brundle making his return to the GP3 cockpit after his Le Mans adventure last weekend, which caused the Carlin man to miss the GP3 test.

Fabiano Machado was next ahead of Patric Niederhauser and Matias Laine, who was fastest on the first day of the Valencia test. Dmitry Suranovich was 18th, in front of John Wartique, Robert Cregan and Antonio Spavone. Vicky Piria, Ethan Ringel and Carmen Jorda rounded out the reduced 24-car field.

Qualifying takes place at 08:45 BST on Saturday morning.
