Trident Racing are set to field their third GP3 car in the remaining rounds of the 2012 season after signing Giovanni Venturini ahead of the Silverstone round.
The Italian team has only entered two drivers, Formula Abarth graduates Vicky Piria and Antonio Spavone, in the three rounds so far this year. A new team to GP3 after taking over the entry of Addax, they have thus far failed to score any points. However, former GP3 racer Nico Muller has proved the team's ability with strong performances when testing the team's third car.
That car will now compete at the remaining rounds of the season with Venturini behind the wheel. The 20-year-old joins his fellow Italian drivers at the team.
Venturini has been racing in Formula Renault 3.5 this year, with a pair of top ten results so far. Last year he raced in Auto GP, winning two races on his way to ninth in the final standings. At the end of last year he tested GP2 machinery for DAMS, but is yet to drive the GP3 car.
He is the second debutant to be confirmed ahead of this weekend, after Facu Regalia's signing to drive Jenzer's third car that was absent at the last round. The number of cars on the grid had fallen to 24 at Valencia, but looks set to increase by two.
