Michael Epps enjoyed his best weekend to date in the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship with a trio of top ten finishes in the penultimate round at Donington Park.
A promising opening qualifying session saw him qualify ninth for the opening race, his and the team’s best qualifying result of the year so far, before some light drizzle caught him out in the second session, leaving him twelfth and fifteenth for the other two encounters.
“It began to drizzle a little bit and the track became a tad unpredictable,” said the 20 year old. “I came in early thinking it wasn’t going to get much better and to save my tyres as it’s a long weekend, but the drizzle stopped for the last couple of laps, so I lost out really.”
A great opening race saw him get involved in a tight scrap for sixth, eventually settling for ninth to take his best result of the season so far. He replicated the result with a strong drive in race two, before repeating the feat once again in fantastic style in race three, passing five cars on the opening lap and reaching eighth at one stage, before ending up ninth for his fourth top ten of the season.
Epps now sits in the top fifteen of the championship after almost doubling his points tally for the season.
“It’s been a pretty strong weekend and we can only build again from here,” he added. “I’m feeling confident running into the last rounds, we will be testing and finding more speed before then.”
