An illustrious panel of motor racing experts have whittled down the contenders for the latest Team USA Scholarships to eight drivers.
After undergoing a round of interviews in front of the panel during the recent Indycar/American Le Mans Series weekend at Mid-Ohio, the eight finalists will now compete over a two-day shootout for the three Scholarships.
The eight finalists are:
Neil Alberico, 19 – Cooper Tires USF2000 Championship Powered by Mazda
Matthew Brabham, 18 – Cooper Tires USF2000 Powered by Mazda race-winner.
Jake Eidson, 17 – Skip Barber Winter Series champion and Summer Series contender
Conner Ford, 16 – Pacific Formula F Super Series race-winner
Sean Johnston, 21– IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge points leader
Jack Mitchell Jr., 16 – Barber Summer Series leader/Canadian F1600 race-winner
Brandon Newey, 20 – F1600 Championship Series points leader
Tristan Nunez, 16 – Cooper Tires Prototype Lites points leader
The octet are vieing for three fully funded drives in England later this year. Two will drive in the Formula Ford Festival at Brands Hatch and the Walter Hayes Trophy at Silverstone, while one will contest the final rounds of the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship at Silverstone.
Day one of the shootout will see them compete on four CXC state-of-the-art Simulators, before they head to Auto Club Speedway on day two to drive FR1600 open-wheel cars provided by Allen Berg Racing.
