Runaway leader of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship Pro-Am 1 class Ahmad Al Harthy is looking to extend his lead as the championship resumes at Snetterton this weekend.
The 30-year-old, from Oman, has enjoyed a remarkable season so far with a 100 percent podium record from the first 10 rounds, including six Pro-Am 1 class victories.
“It’s a fantastic feeling to be back racing”, said the Omani, “The first half of the season was beyond anything we could have wished for, 10 podiums from 10 races and with six wins – I couldn’t have hoped for anything better when the season started.
“We’re in an amazing position at the moment with a good lead in the Pro-Am 1 Championship but there is still a very long way to go. The most important thing is to maintain our focus and ensure we keep delivering strong finishes to try and continue increasing the gap at the top of the points table.”
Al Harthy kept busy during the summer break competing for the second time in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup during the British Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone.
“Racing in Porsche Supercup is always fantastic, the level you have to compete at is so high and it teaches you so much”, he commented, “Obviously, the non-finish was disappointing but I learnt a lot and that can only be beneficial for me in my bid for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Pro-Am 1 title.”
“I know the Oman Air Racing Team will give me a great car at Snetterton, we just need to make sure we qualify strongly and bring home two strong results. Two wins would be nice but protecting, and hopefully increasing, our championship lead has to be the main goal.”
