2012 Britcar 24 Hours: Hour 9 Update

As the racing continues deep into the night at Silverstone for hour nine of the 2012 Britcar 24 Hours, Team LNT were still forging ahead strongly in the overall lead with no issues, keeping a steady 5-lap advantage, ahead of the MP Motorsport E46 GTR, which current leads Class 2.

The Neil Garner Motorsport Mosler was still in the pits with the ongoing alternator issue, eventually exiting pit lane after repairs were completed.  There were several cars black-flagged once again for excessive noise yet again, with team managers including Insurance Store’s BMW #69 being called to Race Control. The #76 Synchro Honda Jazz has been the repeat offender regarding excessive noise.

The Safety Car was deployed again, as the #52 Corum Sport Chevron hitting the barrier at Luffield, and the Intersport Racing BMW came in for an unscheduled pitstop for a left front puncture, and returned a lap later for further checks. The Chevron was found to have broken a driveshaft, but both were replaced by the team, as a precaution, as the car now slides down the overall order.

During the Safety Car period, there was a small flurry of activity for teams entering into pit lane for stops, being only able to put a maximum of 25 litres of fuel under the regulations.

The #70 Guy Povey Motorsport BMW M3 had been in the pits for an extended period of time, with a pedal box issue causing clutch problems for the outfit. Cor Euser Racing’s Lotus Evora is still having a resurgence following its early issues with its suspension arm ball joint early in proceedings, now 2nd in Class 2.

The Perfection Racing Aston Martin still leads Class 3, ahead of the Optimum Motorsport Ginetta G50 and the MMC Motorsport E46 CSL, with Brunswick Automotive’s BMW still ahead in Class 4, with the Insurance Store BMW 120d in second, followed by Team Toyota GB’s GT86, which continues to stay in the top three for the class.
