Tekno Autosports has named former Formula 1 race driver Lucas di Grassi and German Porsche GT driver Marc Lieb for the team’s Armor All Gold Coast 600 international pairings.
di Grassi, who remains in an F1 role as official test driver for tyre supplier Pirelli and drove for the works Audi team last weekend in Brazil in the latest round of the World Endurance Championship will pair up with Michael Patrizi in the team’s #91 Commodore.
“It is an awesome opportunity to partner a highly credentialed driver such as Lucas,” said Patrizi.
“I’m looking forward to racing in the Gold Coast 600 for the first time, having Lucas alongside me will ensure we have a good chance at racing towards the pointy end.”
Lieb, currently competing in the World Endurance Championship, made his debut in last year’s event with IRWIN Racing alongside Alex Davison and this year will line up with Jonathon Webb in the #19 Tekno Autosports entry.
Team owner and driver Webb was impressed with Lieb’s speed last year and believes his experience in endurance racing will be invaluable.
“Marc Lieb is an ideal partner for the Gold Coast 600 endurance event, he was consistently fast in 2011, and has had great successes in endurance racing,” says Webb.
“He is the right man for the job.”
Team Manager Bruce Jenkins, who worked with di Grassi during his time in the British Formula 3 Championship is pleased to have landed the experienced pair.
“It is great to have such a formidable line up for our second venture in the GC600,” said Jenkins.
“Both Marc and Lucas bring a wealth of knowledge, technical skills and experience to Tekno’s endurance team.
“Marc’s performance on track last year was impressive; Jonathon and Marc will be one of the pairs to watch.
“Lucas’s background, demonstrated by his formidable result this past weekend for Audi in Brazil, will guarantee car 91 will be competitive.”
The Armor All Gold Coast 600, will be held on 19-21 October.
