Ginetta will contest the premier class at the 2012 Britcar 24 Hours at Silverstone later this month with a Team LNT team that brings together the three drivers who won the LMGT2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2006.

Ginetta chairman Lawrence Tomlinson will lead the team with Tom KimberSmith and Richard Dean returning to the team after competing elsewhere in recent years. Kimber-Smith has added another two Le Mans class wins to his ever growing CV, winning the LMP2 class twice, including earlier this year. Dean and former managing director at Ginetta has become a regular in GT racing paddocks as co-owner of United Autosports who currently run in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship.

“It’s great to have the original Team LNT back on the grid for the Britcar 24 hour race,” said Tomlinson. “We’ve already shown we’re a 24-hour winning race team, and we’re not going there to finish second. We’ve beaten the Moslers this season. We tend to be lighter, and with that comes more agility. That and the aero gives us an advantage, and we’re very good on tyres.”

The team will be completed by Mike Simpson, with whom Tomlinson already has a brace of race wins in the Britcar MSA British Endurance Championship (BEC) this season.

“It is fantastic to be part of Team LNT and Ginetta during this exciting development phase of the G55 GT3 lifecycle,” Simpson enthuses. “The G55 GT3 will be an affordable, outright winner in many championships and I am pleased to be showcasing our car in the Britcar 24 Hour race. Ginetta enjoyed success in the Britcar 24 hour two years ago in our G40, so there’s no reason we can’t do it again.”

The Ginetta works backed team will enter a GT3 spec Ginetta G55 in the Silverstone race, powered by a 4.35 litre V8 engine made by the company themselves.

The 2012 race (September 21-23) will also be the first Britcar 24 entry since the team dominated their class with a Ginetta G40 in 2010. The road going equivalent of that machine – the G40R – will be on display in the Silverstone paddock during the weekend, while their latest creation – the G60 – will act as safety car during the weekend.
