Live: Avon Tyres British GT Championship Silverstone Practice 1

2 Mins read

This live blog will be updated during the first free practice session for the Avon Tyres British GT Championship at Silverstone.

10:02GT4 champs elect Team WFR were fastest in class, three tenths ahead of the Jota Mazda. Century Motorsports, the only team capable of pipping WFR to the title were two seconds adrift

10:00And that’s how it ends. MTECH Ferrari fastest by eight tenths over Team WFR’s Ginetta which was fastest for much of the hour.

09:56With four minutes to go Matt Griffin finally dislodges Team WFR from the top with a stonking lap of 2:03.734

09:4515 minutes left. At the top it’s Ginetta, Ferrari, McLaren and two Astons ahead of the Chevron, still sixth on the strength of it’s early time

09:43And again, no improvement with slower times through the remaining two sectors, but it’s another lap in the 2:04s

09:42Well, no not on that lap, but there’s another purple dot for them to start their next lap.

09:40And their fastest overall through sector one. Could they improve their time?

09:39Team WFR do another lap in the 2:04s. That’s at least twice for them while everyone else is stuck in 2:05 and slower

09:37Team WFR’s GT4 duo – Jody Fannin and Warren Hughes need only finish fourth in tomorrow’s three hour race to seal the title with a round to spare

09:35It’s Team WFR in GT4 too, with their Ginetta G50 fastest ahed of the Jota run Mazda MX5

09:34Glynn Geddie – I presume – buts the black #1 McLaren third fastest, Team WFR still quickest by half a second over MTECH

09:30Points leader Ashburn’s Porsche in down in 13th as his nearest challengers, MTECH, go second fastest through Matt Griffin

09:29Half an hour in, the WFR Ginetta still holds sway by seven tenths

09:24But they are promptly gazumped for eighth place by the similar United Autosport McLaren

09:22The Apex Motorsport McLaren moves up to eighth. Defending champions Glynn and Jim Geddie returning to the track where the clinched the title last year.

09:2120 minutes in Team WFR Ginetta, leads the Astons of Cyber Racing and Beechdean. The Chevron is still fourth with the Tandy and Osborne car the best of the Porsches in fifth

09:18Track commentators seeing a yellow flag on track and blaming the #14 Stark Racing Ginetta GT3

09:16It’s Aston Martin Racing MD John Gaw and Phil Dryburgh sharing that car, running as #17 in a rather fine livery. We’ll have pictures later for you to see for yourself.

09:15And now it’s Aston’s second and third with  the Cyber Racing Vantage second fastest on its series debut.

09:14That’s Jody FIRTH and Riki Christodoulou, this is first practice for my fingers too!

09:13The Beechdean Aston Martin moves into second place. still seven-tenths from away from the WFR combo of Jody Firstyh and Riki Christodoulou (no idea which is in the car right now sadly)

09:09And the Invitation class – so non-points scoring – Chevron GT3 moves up to second fastest (2:05.293)

09:08The #32 car of double winners Steve Tandy and Joe Osborne briefly takes the top spot before the Team WFR Ginetta G55 leaps ahead with a 2:04.558 lap arund the Silverstone Grand Prix track.

09:05It’s Trackspeed Porsche 1-2-3 after the first clutch of flying laps, the #31 od Phil Keen and championship leader David Ashburn leading the way on 2:06.167

09:01And with that the engines fire up and the RJN Motorsport Nissan GT-R departs from beneath my feet to start the session.

09:00Let’s get this show on the road! First of two free practice sessions is minutes away from hitting the Silverstone track!
