Douglas Motorsport Win Ginetta Junior Team Championship

1 Mins read

Irish outfit Douglas Motorsport have rounded off their maiden season in the Ginetta Junior Championship on a high by securing the 2012 Ginetta Junior Championship Team’s title.

A maiden win for Andrew Watson and a return to the podium for Niall Murray last time out at Silverstone mean the team has a strong lead in the standings heading into the final races around the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit.

A tremendous opening race saw Murray storm to the race win, with Watson continuing his great recent form with third. The second race didn’t go to plan though with both drivers suffering from contact, Murray finishing fifth, Watson seventh.

The results cap off a sensational season for the team, who have collected a total of nineteen podium finishes, including six wins, with both driver’s finishing in the top five of the championship.

“I’m absolutely delighted that in our rookie season in Ginetta Junior we have come out as Team Champions,” said team manager Wayne Douglas. “Naturally we’re really disappointed for Niall as he was easily one of the best drivers on the grid this season, but third is still a fantastic result in such a competitive championship. Andrew has come on leaps and bounds over the course of this season and proves that the combination of team and driver has really worked well for both our drivers given that we’ve been on the podium at almost every round this season.”
