Michael Epps believes he is finally where he belongs in the Protyre Formula Renault BARC Championship after securing a fourth place finish in Round Thirteen at Silverstone.
Speaking to thecheckeredflag.co.uk after securing his first top five finish of the campaign, the JWA-Avila driver expressed his relief at securing a great finish after a tough campaign so far.
“It kind of feels right now, that I’m right there at the front of the grid, close to the lights, where I thought I could be at the start of the year,” he said.
“We’ve had a lot of issues with the car and the team through the season, bits that we’ve had to change and learn, with me and the team being equally inexperienced. We’ve learnt a lot and pulled the car forward just in time for this meeting, and now the car is pretty competitive, I’ve shown I can run at the front.”
Epps is hoping to build on the result in the final race of the season and believes he can use strong overtaking ability to secure a top five finish from a frustrating thirteenth on the grid.
“I’ve been moving through the field all year really, so I’ve had plenty of practice at overtaking,” he concluded. “It’s one thing I’m normally pretty good at, so I should be able to get up there and provided there aren’t any hiccups, hopefully a top five finish, or maybe even better, you never know.”
