Formula Ford Joins BTCC Bill For 2013

The British Formula Ford Championship will join the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support race package next season as single-seater racing returns to the BTCC bill after a year out.

The historic championship, seen as the natural move to single-seater racing for budding young drivers, has been won by the likes of Ayrton Senna and Jenson Button, and has previously been on the TOCA schedule.

Formula Renault UK was due to be a part of the package this season but the series was canned after a poor number of entries, and will not run again in 2013. Its sister championship, Formula Renault BARC, supported the BTCC at Silverstone.

Series Director Alan Gow said of the three-year agreement: “I am delighted to have Formula Ford back supporting the BTCC. For many seasons Formula Ford provided some of the best support event racing we have ever seen and I have no doubt that we will see many more of those gloriously competitive races driven by some future F1 stars.

“This is an incredibly positive step for the championship, its teams and our huge audiences and spectators. It’s very much a case of ‘welcome home’ Formula Ford.”

Can’t be amything but good news and will hopefully see a reversal in the declining numbers for such a historic series.

  • Watch out for Inspire Racing sitting on the grid at the start of next year and look out for some very exciting new out on Tuesday

I grew up watching motorsport of all kinds at my local circuit Brands Hatch but what sticks in my mind more than any other is Formula Ford. For all round entertainment you just can’t beat it which is why it’s been around for as long as it has. It’s great to see it back on the BTCC bill getting some well deserved TV coverageand it’s just as good as it ever was.
