Paris Flashback: Mercedes Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive

1 Mins read

Mercedes and motor sport go together hand in hand and have been a constant icon across a variety of race series, from F1 to sportscars few would have thought the impact that Karl Benz’s company would make on the motor sport landscape possible back in 1911 when they built the “bird beaked” Blitzen Benz that set various land speed records would be so huge.

In recent years there has been a strong return to Formula 1 both as an engine supplier and manufacturer, aside from that Mercedes Benz sports cars continue to excel, most recently with their Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 which took victory in the 2010 VLN long-distance championship at the Nurburgring just one year after it was unveiled at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show.

While the world moves towards an environmentally friendly vision the German Marque proved it is at the forefront of hybrid and EV technology when at the 2012 Paris Motor Show they unveiled the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Electric Drive which is set for release in June 2013.
