Powell joins the F3 Cup field after a season in GP3

Former Formula Renault BRDC champion and GP3 star Alice Powell has confirmed she will complete a full season in the MSVR-run F3 Cup series with Mark Bailey Racing.

The rapid 20-year-old from Chipping Norton has become a growing star in the single seater world of motorsport, graduating into the Formula 1-supporting GP3 championship last year where she became the first female racer to score points in the series following an eighth place finish at Monza with Status GP.

BRDC Rising Star Powell previously contested both the BTCC-supporting and BARC Formula Renault championships in the UK, coming out on top of a three-way fight for the latter in 2010 thanks to two wins on her way to securing the title.

The move will be Powell’s first experience of Formula 3 racing, and she already intends to fight for the overall prize, saying: “I kept a close eye on F3 Cup last season and I have to say it is a great championship. It is a great way to race Formula 3 cars and drivers are able to do it in a cost effective way.”

“F3 Cup has been getting stronger over the last few years and I’m looking forward to be racing in a competitive championship with a great team in Mark Bailey Racing.”

The championship is really competitive but I want to be targeting a top three finish in the title race come the end of the season”, added Powell. “There is a long way to go and a lot of racing to be done but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

Stuart Wiltshire, Nick Robinson and Frank Thomas who will continue to race for the experienced Wiltshire-based team, MBR venturing into their 26th season of Formula 3 racing which gets underway on April 1 at Cheshire’s Oulton Park circuit.
