Luke Herbert is hoping success in the Michelin Clio Cup Series with Protyre this season will act as a springboard into the Renault UK Clio Cup.
The reigning Ma5da MX5 Cup champion was set to compete in the Clio Cup this season with Scuderia Vittoria, after securing a coveted place on the KX Akademy scheme.
Herbert was unable to raise the remaining budget required to compete though, losing his place in the process and forcing him into a move into the new-for-2013 club-level Clio Series.
The 23 year old has purchased the car campaigned in the Clio Cup last season by Mark Tilbury, and is looking for success from the off.
“One week ago I wasn’t going to be racing this year, but we managed to get the money to buy Mark Tilbury’s car and we’ve got the chance to get involved with the Clio Cup Series,” said Herbert. “The idea is to race in the BARC series, try and raise the funds to do the last two rounds of Clio Cup UK and then make the step-up into the main championship next year.”
