Former double series champion Phil House clinched his first pole position since returning to the VW Racing Cup beating Aaron Mason and Martin Depper to the fastest time in qualifying at Silverstone.

Both Mason and Depper held the provisional pole several times during the session as the top time, if not always the driver ahead changed several times every lap with Depper taking pole for the first time after three laps before losing the place to Joe Fulbrook only to retake the provisional pole with a lap of 2:27.329 while House leapfrogged early pace setter Mason into second place.

All three of the key men continued to improve their times though in shaving just a tenth of his previous best Depper dropped to third as both Mason and House went under 2:27 with the eventual front row men setting times of 2:26.790 and 2:26.565 respectively.

Having been some margin behind the battle for pole position Henry Gilbert took fourth in the final minutes to put his Golf on the grid behind the three Scirocco ahead.

Joe Fulbrook – a recent convert to the Golf was sixth fastest, the two Golfs sandwiching fifth placed Ross Wylie. The Sciroccos of Stewart Lines, Chris Levett and David Fairbrother completed the top ten together with Peter Whinny’s SEAT.

The first to two VW Racing Cup races on the Silverstone Grand Prix track is scheduled for 9:55am tomorrow (May 26).
