Records were tumbling across the board as 8,000 people witnessed two days of racing under glorious sunshine at Motorsport at the Palace.
The Crystal Palace circuit saw Gary Thomas, the existing record holder, take almost a second off of his own record in a Force PT, lapping in a time of 32.87 seconds. The racing action was started by the Mayor of Bromley, Cllr. Ernest Noad and his wife Diane as class records across the board were beaten.
A late addition to the on-track action proved very popular with the crowds, as Loris Capirossi‘s 2003 MotoGP Ducati provided demonstration runs for the fans.
Away from the circuit, Bill Newman‘s Jaguar XK120 won the Kleers Show & Shine competition, while the Best Club Display awards went to the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club and the Stag Owners Club taking the spoils on Sunday and Monday respectively.
“This was my first visit to Crystal Palace in 40 years and it was full of nostalgia, wonderful camaraderie and a fantastic atmosphere,” said Tony Beesley, who’s Jedi Mk4 set the fastest time of the day on Sunday. “To be able to compete with such a diverse range of cars in front of such a crowd was fantastic. It will be remembered as one of my best days of motorsport.”
The 2013 Motorsport At The Palace event raised £3,500 for local charities, taking the overall total raised to almost £15,000.
