The line-up for the 2013 Silverstone Classic continues to grow as two new grids were announced at the event’s Media Day.
Historic Formula Fords and a one hour event for pre-1966 GTs will join the list of races which includes Historic Formula 1, Touring Cars, Formula Juniors, Historic Sportscars and Group C Prototypes.
The new Piper Heidsick International Trophy for pre-1966 GT cars, in association with Chopard, will see some iconic Le Mans cars battle for honours around the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit in a one hour race, with the winners earning specially engraved watches from Chopard.
Historic Formula Fords will also make their debut at the World’s largest classic car festival, with over 40 cars already signed up to compete and the organisers confident they will be able to break the 50 car barrier.
The Silverstone Classic will also celebrate a variety of milestones, with the 911 Porsche 911s on track to mark the 50th anniversary of the iconic marque. Other anniversaries include the 50th year of Lamborghini and the Lotus Cortina, which will be in action in the Under 2 Litre Touring Car race, 60 years of the Corvette and 100 years of Aston Martin.
Away from the on-track action, top tribute acts will perform on the live stage, celebrating bands such as Led Zeppelin, The Eagles, Guns ‘n’ Roses and Pink Floyd, while Saturday night will see The Hollies close the evening.
