Spirit of Daytona Racing head to Belle Isle in search of redemption after a tough 2012 event which saw victory slip from their grasp.
As the Rolex Series returns to the streets of Detroit, Spirit of Daytona Racing will see Ricky Taylor and Richard Westbrook team up in the #90 Corvette DP attempt to score the team’s first victory of 2013, after missing out on victory in 2012 due to getting caught up in GT traffic.
“This was definitely one that got away from us last year, so we’ve had this weekend on our mind for a long time,” said team owner Troy Flis. “We will have to see what the new layout does for the Corvette DP, but I think we had a good package last year and hopefully we will be able to once again have a good mechanical platform to give Ricky and Richard all the grip they need.”
Despite the incident in 2012, Spirit of Daytona showed strong pace throughout the weekend, setting the second fastest lap time in the first practice session as well as running in the top-five for most of the weekend.
Since its debut in the Grand-Am series last season, the Belle Isle street circuit has been changed for the 2013 event, with a longer back straight and new pavement in areas, providing additional challenges for the teams and drivers.
